The Iphone, Ipod Touch, and Ipad have many apps that can be helpful for your home theater. You can do many tasks with a touch of the finger.

Your iPhone is always by your side to keep you in touch with others, and with information. There are many useful apps that are available for home theater purposes. Some are free and others are not, but all take advantage of the wonderful touchscreen technology you already own.

Netflix

Netflix's streaming video is now available on an app. You can stream movies directly to your iPhone or iPod touch, and manage your queue. You never have to get up off your couch again to see what is available or make your next selection.

IMDB

The Internet Movie Database is an invaluable website for movie lovers. Information about virtually every movie and TV show is available. You can see a synopsis, trailer, review, actor and director list, trivia, and more. You'll never have to wait till the credits to find out who that actor was in the movie you were watching.

SPL Meter

The SPL meter measures the sound pressure of the speakers in your room. While you may think you can adjust the levels of your speakers by ear, it really does take something more to attain accuracy. This app will measure the volume levels and allow you to dial in the right amount to get the sound your home theater deserves.

Tivo

All the Tivo owners out there can finally feel the love of an app, now. This great app will allow owners of the Premeire models to use search functions and schedule recordings. The Tivo app will not be free and only applies to those with a subscription.

Satellite Services

Dishnetwork and Directv have apps to control their satellite receivers. These can work as remotes, and can also schedule recordings. If you have a Dish 922 model or 722 with Sling adapter, you can also watch live television or programs you have recorded from anywhere you have internet access.

Home Automation

Most of the home automation designers also have apps available. Now instead of having a dedicated remote, you can use your iPhone or iPod touch to control lights, screens, thermostats, and more.

The iPad, with its large screen, makes a great way to access all the controls on your system. Some home automation systems are not being built around the Ipad instead of a pre-built touchscreen. There are apps available for Sonos systems and other home audio solutions.

Remote Control

There are several different apps available to control your home theater system. These allow you to change channel or volume, as well as turn on and off devices. The main problem of making your phone your primary remote is that it may not always be by your home theater. If you are gone, or talking on the phone, no one else could control it. These apps do make great secondary remotes.

More and more apps are becoming available. There are move available for Apple devices, and also for Android phones. These great apps can make your home theater a little better and give you the control you need. While some have a price, many are free for you to take advantage of. Your home theater has never been better.
